Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe
The Opposition Leader of Sri Lanka.

I am pleased to send my greetings and Best Wishes to the Association of Disabled Ex-service Personnel at the inauguration of their website.

The Disabled Ex-service Personnel are the victimized lot during the 18 years of cruel war culminated by the ethnic conflict between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil militants. In spite of several attempts by the governments that were in power to settle this unnecessary massacre of lives and sacrifice of limbs by disabled personnel, the war continued till the end of last year.

We as a third world country trying to develop into self - sufficiency cannot afford the exorbitant expenditure wasted on the war. Such expenditure could be better used to elevate the economic standards of the people and to improve their quality of life. Our government before coming into power in December 2001 felt the pulses of the masses who aspired for peace and we signed a Memorandum of Understanding 0n 22nd February 2002.

From that day there are no deaths and no one has become disabled. The country will be blessed with eternal peace through negotiations. The first round of such negotiations commenced on 16th September 2002 with the LTTE in Thailand. The facilities and support that should be extended to the victimized members of ADEP cannot be shouldered only by the Government. I wish to appeal to all Peace loving citizens and well wishers to help this deserving section of our citizens.

I send my greetings on the occasion of the opening of Association of Disabled Ex-service Personnel web site. I wish them success.
