Director - Media National Peace Council of
Sri Lanka.
The launch of Web-site is another
forward step in the building up of ADEP as the foremost organization
standing for the rights of disabled former service personnel
and for the formation of a strong peace movement in the country.
On behalf of the National Peace Council I wish to congratulate
ADEP and its president Mr. H.K.A. Dayaratna. We are happy that
an organization we have worked with in participation is going
from strength to strength.
Recently we were able to read in the newspapers about ADEP's
visits to the LTTE controlled Wanni. The cordial relationships
that former combatants were able to enjoy demonstrate a truth
we need to keep in mind. The ethnic conflict in our country
is less about cultural differences than it is about the sharing
of political power.
As an influential civil society organization, ADEP has an important
role to play in the country today. It needs to put pressure
on the political leaders to honors the people's mandate for
peace and for justice to all victims of the war. We are glad
to have ADEP as an ally in this endeavor which calls for bipartisanship
and not power struggles between the major political parties.
The members of ADEP did their duty by their country as soldiers
and paid a heavy price. Today they are doing more than their
duty as a peace organization. We honor ADEP's president Mr.
Dayaratna for his leadership role. He has made former soldiers
an important part of the country's peace movement and sought
to ensure justice for them and for other victims of the war.
We give ADEP our best wishes on this occasion and wish it more
successes in the years to come.
